I’ll admit it, I’m jealous of Grace Women’s Circle. The women’s group meets on the first Saturday of the month in our cozy lounge for confidential conversation, connection, and support. I’m not allowed to know what happens in there (because I’m not a woman), but when Grace women do talk to me even vaguely about this group they are smiling widely, or they have tears of emotion, or they are laughing heartily about the good time they had.
Is being jealous of Women’s Group a terrible reason to have a Men’s Group? Yes, I think it would be. So, I’m glad we have lots of other reasons to have our Men o’ Grace group. How about: 1. it’s not easy to be a Christian man these days, 2. men don’t always make connections and friendships and relationships as easily or as quickly as women seem to, and 3. I think God loves it when we get together and talk about our lives, our struggles, and our successes, in an atmosphere of acceptance, understanding, and encouragement.
Men o’ Grace meets once a month, on a Tuesday evening (dates announced in the STAR and other Grace news sources), in the Lounge, and there’s SNACKS! Which are sometimes not even STALE!
We always seem to have meaningful, interesting, thoughtful, conversations around topics such as marriage, careers, finances, AI, war and peace, spirituality, success and failure, and life in Grace church, just to mention a few. We resist the urge to fix all the problems, to fire up the grill and have a barbeque, or to talk sports. We sometimes read a paragraph or two on the topic of the month and discuss our thoughts on the matter. Opinions are expressed; memories, hopes, and dreams are shared; insights happen.
If you are a man, you are invited to join us. Next one is October 20, 7 pm. Come to the Little Lambs entrance (the white left-hand door as you face the church building from the West Street parking lot) and ring the “church office” doorbell. Come as you are, no homework, no stress, just a sense of belonging and other men willing to listen.
If you have questions or want to know more, please talk with me. Did I mention there’s snacks?
Blessings, — Terry
