“Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43
When: Thursday, April 9, 2020 at 7 p.m.
Where: Grace Church Sanctuary
About: Maundy Thursday Service of Communion and Tenebrae
The Sanctuary Choir, Grace SSAA choir and Joyful Noise offer a service of Lessons and Carols for Maundy Thursday. The anthems reflect the Seven Last Words of Christ, which this year will be paralleled with the creation story. The wide variety of anthems include music from Estonia, Ireland and Weston Priory (Vermont).
About: Please join all the Grace Church choirs for a service of Lessons and Carols during Sunday morning worship. The story of the promise of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus is told in readings from Genesis, the prophetic books and the Gospels, interspersed with the singing of anthems, spirituals and familiar carols. The service first took place in Truro Cathedral in 1880 and has since been celebrated in churches and cathedrals throughout the world. It is most famously broadcast from King’s College, Cambridge, and heard by millions of people world-wide.
We are located on the corner of Court and West. For parking, enter our lot from
West Street. Street parking is also available on Court Street. The handicap entrance may be accessed through the north side portico of Grace Church via the parking lot. The elevator is located in the central part of the building.
The Children’s Choir and Joyful Noise offer upbeat Christmas anthems. The choirs will help lead the traditional Christmas story told through drama and song! We also welcome local tenor, Raymond White, to offer traditional secular and sacred songs for the prelude and postlude. Arrive early to hear Raymond’s delightful interpretations of seasonal favorites.
Christmas Prelude 10:25 PM –
Later that evening, at 10:30 p.m., the Sanctuary Choir will offer a Musical Prelude and be joined by Nova Wang, violin; Raymond White, tenor; and the Grace TTBB choir to offer beautiful and uplifting music.
Candlelight Service 11:00 PM –
The Candlelight Evening Service begins at 11 p.m., and will include the choral classics, O Magnum Mysterium by Morten Lauridsen, and Candlelight Carol by John Rutter. We will all share in the beauty and comfort of lighting candles and singing “Silent Night” as the wonder and mystery of Christmas unfolds.
