Bio – Rev. Terry Hanley

Born in what was then “Rutland Hospital,” baptized in the Federated Church of Castleton, and growing up in Bomoseen and Killington before graduating from the University of Vermont and Andover Newton Theological School, Reverend Tyrrell “Terry” Hanley has deep roots in Rutland County and an abiding love for Vermont and its people.

Having recently celebrated 25 years of ordination to ministry in the United Church of Christ, Terry has served churches in various capacities in Vermont, Massachusetts, and California. Along the way he became a Registered Nurse, allowing him the flexibility to serve bi-vocationally for many years, including five years as a psychiatric nurse at Spring Lake Ranch, a therapeutic community in the hills of Shrewsbury, Vermont, while also a part-time Associate Minister in Castleton.

Rev. Hanley brings a passion for the beauty of scripture, a love for weaving stories and crafting engaging worship, as well as clinical experience in healing arts and sciences. His joy in ministering with and to people of all kinds overflows with humor, sensitivity, radical acceptance, and a boundless love sourced in the Divine and shared unconditionally.

Terry lives in the village of Castleton with Bonnie, his wife of 31 years, and a dignified Cairn terrier mutt; the Hanley’s have two adult children, Abigail and William. Terry’s mother Jane is also an active member of Grace Church. Gardening, community theater, hiking in the mountains, and collecting vintage typewriters are among Terry’s enjoyed hobbies.
