Service of Light in the Midst of Darkness — The seasons of Advent and Christmas can be painful for some. It may be the first holiday without family members or friends who have recently died. The strong emphasis on family and togetherness can emphasize the loneliness of those who are separated from loved ones. The anguish of broken relationships, the insecurity of employment, the weariness of ill health, the pain of isolation – all these can make us feel very alone in the midst of the celebrations of the season. Space and time is needed to acknowledge sadness, grief, isolation, and concern that may be very present. The Service of Light in the Midst of Darkness provides an opportunity to do that.
